Parents and school employees will now be among the first to know about school closings, emergency information, and more.
On Thursday, November 15, 2018, around 4:00pm, parents will receive a text from 67587 and have the opportunity to opt-in to receive text alerts.
Reply "Y" for yes, to opt-in to receive text alerts. To opt-out, simply ignore the text. To stop receiving text alerts at any point, send "STOP" to 67587.
The district will test the system on November 19, during the 4:00pm hour. Parents or school employees who do not receive a text message during that time should contact their school office.
If a user has any issues, there are two likely fixes:
- Ensure a correct, working number is placed in the school's information system.
- User needs to correctly reply to 67587 with just the letter "Y" and no other characters.

Parents should receive a 4x6 post card from Charleston R-I Central Office via mail. If parents have any questions about the text messaging system, they are asked to contact their school's office.
Charleston R-I's text alert system is powered by SchoolMessenger, which the district uses to broadcast auto-calls and auto-emails.
